Speaking of community funding....
There's been a quiet community effort now for years to try to build a structure where its possible for community to self-fund interests. It's mostly been a matrix channel discussion, is my understanding. I wish I could point you to a good mailinglist or forum thread about the organizational work this group has been doing but I can't. An archived public discussion would have helped me come up to speed faster as part of the role change.

Once I was up to speed, I made it a point to bring the idea forward for discussion at the Council face to face as a strategic agenda item. We captured a summary of that discussion in the daily summaries. I think it was the first time the Council face-2-face have had daily discussion summaries. Hopefully those daily summaries were useful for the community. It felt useful to do the end of day summary work when we were doing it. And its useful right now, because I can point to them as an artifact.

There is also recorded video summary of the council f2f for the community...where I talk about the strategic nature of the community resourcing question:

At Flock last week the FCA and I were asked to attend a face 2 face with the community group who have been working the problem and we gave that group a summary of Council's intent to run an experiment making use of open collective, so Council can gain some experience with the platform and use that experiment as a way to have a public discussion about what we want to achieve as a strategic goal, and take feedback that leads towards a durable process we can grow. Those of us in the room, last week, seemed to be on the same page as we left the meeting. Council is probably going a little slower than they want, but I'm trying to get traction on this as a strategic need and more importantly starting to talk about this more publicly.
