The 2026 NFL Draft offered teams a valuable opportunity to add youth in areas where they needed it. However, teams also had the chance to overlook key players, which could lead them to explore other options, such as signing certain free agents. Notably, one former Buffalo Bills player signed a contract after the draft.
Former Bills WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling is heading to The Cowboys
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported on Monday that the Dallas Cowboys are signing wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a one-year contract.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling has been in the NFL for eight seasons, starting his career with the Green Bay Packers, where he appeared in 58 games. He then moved on to the Kansas City Chiefs for two seasons, where he helped them win two Super Bowls in 2022 and 2023. In 2024, he took the next step in his journey by joining the Bills.
The 31-year-old receiver didn’t make much of an impact in Buffalo, appearing in just six games and recording two receptions for 26 yards. The Bills parted ways with Valdes-Scantling after six games, and he later signed with the New Orleans Saints for the remainder of the 2024 season. He then played for the San Francisco 49ers and the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025.
Although Valdes-Scantling is nearing the end of his career, he has still put together an impressive resume, boasting 3,686 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns over 116 games.
The Cowboys are likely bringing in Valdes-Scantling as a camp body to see what he can bring to the table. If he performs well, Dallas could have stumbled into a good deal; if not, then the Cowboys can cut ties without giving up anything.
