The Dallas Cowboys could make one last big move in the offseason to land a player who would beef up their line.

The Dallas Cowboys are making moves after the draft, and there’s no telling what Jerry Jones and company will do next. Now, the team is getting urged to add a beefy linebacker to round out their roster, which is a position the Cowboys certainly have room to improve upon.

First off, it’s nice to see the Cowboys get props for their 2026 draft choices. Chad Reuter of the NLF’s official website gave the team a “B+” for their draft class, which is a solid score. But, that doesn’t mean their lineup is set, and the powers at be know it.

In a Sunday, April 26 feature for the Cowboys Wire, Terence Watson urges the team to look at adding a veteran linebacker to their roster. You have to admit that strengthening that core would help this team advance come September.

NFL Analyst Urges the Dallas Cowboys to Snag a Veteran Linebacker

Watson likes the idea of Bobby Wagner coming to the Cowboys. He’s not the first analyst to make this suggestion, of course. Sports Illustrated’s Cowboys set suggested this same move in early April stating, “Dallas has yet to sign an off-ball linebacker and a veteran like Wagner could be a solid late addition in free agency. He signed a one-year, $9 million deal with the Commanders last offseason, but the Cowboys would need to get him to agree to much less than that.”

As for Wagner, he makes the good point that the team can always use linebacker support. So, why not get it from a study of a player? Wagner clocks 2,000 total tackles, 107 tackles for loss, 39.5 sacks and 76 passes defended.

“The ageless Bobby Wagner continues to defy the odds and produce at a high level in the NFL, despite his age,” Watson notes in the Cowboys Wire piece. “The reason Dallas would like to add Wagner is his football IQ and ability to teach and help on the field.”

He adds, “A field general in the middle of this defense, and much like Douglas, Wagner has seen almost everything a linebacker could see thrown at them.” Another bonus is that Wagner  can help teach the Cowboys’ new linebackers while also boosting their run defense, “something Dallas is always looking for from the linebacker position.”

So, is this a match made in football heaven? It would help the lineup, but the question is if Jones think it would be worth the bag. Wagner’s career earnings, according to Spotrac, are close to $119 million.

Dallas Cowboys Get an ‘A’ Grade for 2026 NFL Draft

In draft news, Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN absolutely loves the Dallas Cowboys’ 2026 draft class, and he’s not fronting. He gives the team an “A” grade for their moves.

What he likes most is that the team is fixing its defense problems. In the piece, he calls out Dallas for their “outrageously bad” defensive unit in 2025 with 6.1 yards allowed per play (31st), 30.1 points allowed per game (32nd), minus-153 EPA (32nd), 58.4 opponent QBR (29th) and 47.3 percent opponent third-down rate (32nd).

“So it’s no surprise that the Cowboys’ first three picks — and five of their seven total — came on that side of the ball,” he states. “They made splashes in Round 1, trading up for Caleb Downs and trading down for Malachi Lawrence.”

Kiper is part of a louder voice emerging in the NFL, and it’s one that thinks the Dallas Cowboys will be real contenders in the 2026-27 season.
