Blue Jays make George Springer announcement.

The Toronto Blue Jays will finally have slugger George Springer back in the lineup.

Springer has missed the last two games after leaving Saturday’s game after being hit by a pitch on his fractured toe, which he just returned from the IL. Although the injury wasn’t any worse, many wondered if an IL stint was needed.

However, on Tuesday, the Blue Jays made a new Springer announcement, and he’s batting leadoff against the Tampa Bay Rays. Toronto’s lineup on Tuesday is as follows:

  • G. Springer DH
  • Y. Piñango LF
  • K. Okamoto 3B
  • J. Sánchez RF
  • L. Sosa 1B
  • D. Varsho CF
  • E. Clement 2B
  • A. Giménez SS
  • B. Valenzuela C

Springer being back in the lineup is huge news for the Blue Jays, but Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is given a day off. The hope is that the likes of Springer, Pinango, and Okamoto can handle the load and pick up the offense for Guerrero.

Springer is hitting .212 with 2 home runs and 7 RBIs this season. He’s in the final year of his six-year, $150 million deal with the Blue Jays.

Blue Jays Avoided Major Injury to Springer

Springer returned from the IL on April 29 due to a toe injury, and he was hit on the toe again just days later.

The slugger left Saturday’s game due to an injury after being hit on the toe. Luckily, the Blue Jays avoided a major injury to Springer.

“He’s all right. He got X-rays which showed no new fracture. … It’s not any worse than it was,” Schneider said. “It went right off that guard he has on his spikes, thankfully. You probably saw him just laughing as he was sitting there on the ground. We’ll see how he is. I love that the X-rays are negative and there’s not anything else going on with his toe.”

The Blue Jays also said that if this were the playoffs, Springer would have continued to play. And, after two days off to let his toe heal, Springer is back in the lineup and leading off for the Blue Jays, who are looking to get back into the win column on Tuesday.

Toronto Fans React to Springer Back in Lineup

The Blue Jays are coming off a 5-1 loss to the Rays in the series opener, and now Springer is back in the lineup on Tuesday.

After Toronto’s lineup reveal, Blue Jays fans were excited to see Springer back in the lineup.

“Springer lead off homer?,” a fan wrote.

“Vladdy day off ig but Springer is here,” a fan added.

“MY GLORIOUS UNC IS BACK,” a fan wrote.

Springer is a key part of the Blue Jays’ offense, and getting him back healthy will be key for Toronto.

“LEADOFF GOAT IS BACK,” a fan wrote.

“thank god for Springer,” a fan added.

“LET’S GO GEORGE!,” a fan added.

Toronto is off to a 16-19 start but has started to play better baseball. The Blue Jays are looking to avoid dropping a series against the Rays on Tuesday before the series finale on Wednesday afternoon.
