On Monday night, the Detroit Tigers will open up their series with the Boston Red Sox at Comerica Park.

The Tigers are coming off a 7-1 win over the Texas Rangers (on Sunday).

Gleyber Torres did not play in Sunday’s game (after getting hurt on Saturday).

Gleyber Torres exited tonight’s game after experiencing tightness in his left side. He remains under evaluation.

Torres remains out of the starting lineup on Monday.

That said, manger A.J. Hinch shared a positive update.

Evan Woodbery of MLive Media Group wrote: “In less pressing news, Gleyber Torres (left side tightness) will be out of the lineup again tonight, but A.J. Hinch suggested he could be used as a pinch hitter.”

Torres joined a long list of Tigers players that are dealing with injuries.

He is currently batting .259 with 30 hits, two home runs, 11 RBI’s and 18 runs in 32 games.

Last season, Torres made the All-Star Game in his first season with the franchise.

Before the Tigers, the 29-year-old spent seven years with the New York Yankees (making two All-Star Games in that span).

Tony Paul of The Detroit News wrote: “Of the #Tigers $235-millionish payroll, nearly $90 million is on the injured list. That’s not including day-to-day guys Gleyber Torres and Kenley Jansen. Rotowire called the Tigers the most-injured team in baseball earlier today. That was before the Tarik Skubal news.”

Tigers And Red Sox Right Now

The Tigers have been surprisingly competitive despite the current state of their roster.

They find themselves as the second-place team in the American League Central with an 18-17 record in 35 games.

At home, the Tigers are 12-3 in 15 games.

After their series with the Red Sox, they will head on the road to visit the Kansas City Royals on Friday night.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox are at the bottom of the American League East with a 13-21 record in 34 games.

On the road, they are 7-11 in 18 games played outside of Fenway Park.
