When Do the Timberwolves Play Next? Schedule, Latest News

The Minnesota Timberwolves play next on Friday, May 15, when they host the San Antonio Spurs in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals.

Tipoff is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET, and the Timberwolves’ season will be on the line. San Antonio leads the series 3-2 after handing Minnesota a 126-97 loss in Game 5, putting the Wolves one loss away from elimination.

Minnesota has two full days off before Game 6, and that break could be especially important for Anthony Edwards, who has been playing heavy minutes while managing knee pain.

As Heavy Sports previously noted, Edwards “did get one thing he clearly wanted: time” after the Game 5 loss, with the Timberwolves getting their longest break of the series before returning home for Game 6.

Minnesota Timberwolves-San Antonio Spurs Game 6: Friday, May 15

The Timberwolves’ next game is straightforward in both timing and stakes.

Minnesota hosts San Antonio on Friday, May 15, with Game 6 scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET. If the Timberwolves win, they force a Game 7 back in San Antonio. If they lose, their playoff run ends.

The series has shifted sharply after Minnesota looked capable of taking control earlier in the round. The Spurs have won three straight games, including two blowouts at home. The Game 5 loss was especially concerning because Minnesota was outscored in every quarter and never found a reliable offensive rhythm.

For the Timberwolves, Game 6 is not just about avoiding elimination. It is about finding a way to make the series feel competitive again.

San Antonio’s athleticism and pressure have bothered Minnesota’s offense, particularly when the Spurs have sent extra attention at Edwards. In Game 5, Edwards scored 20 points on 6-of-13 shooting in 39 minutes, but the bigger issue was how few clean looks he generated compared with earlier games in the series.

Heavy’s previous coverage noted that ESPN Research tracked 20 double-teams against Edwards in Game 5, with Minnesota scoring 13 points on those possessions while committing five turnovers.

That is the problem Minnesota must solve by Friday night. The Timberwolves need Edwards to pressure the rim and make quick reads, but they also need the rest of the roster to punish San Antonio when the ball leaves his hands.

If the Spurs can trap Edwards without paying for it, Game 6 could look too much like Game 5.

The Timberwolves Had Two Days Off, Which Is Good News for Anthony Edwards

The best news for the Timberwolves is that Edwards gets time to recover before the biggest game of Minnesota’s season.

Edwards has played 41, 40 and 39 minutes over the past three games, according to Heavy’s earlier report, while dealing with pain in both knees. He had also been working back from a hyperextended left knee and bone bruise suffered in the first-round series against the Denver Nuggets.

That context makes the two-day break matter. It does not guarantee Edwards will dominate Game 6, but it gives Minnesota a better chance to get a more explosive version of its best player.

Edwards made it clear after Game 5 that he welcomed the break.

“I’m so happy,” Edwards said, via ESPN. “I’m ready to get two days.”

There is also a statistical reason for optimism. StatMuse data showing Edwards averaged 30.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists on 46.2% shooting in eight games this season with two days of rest. He also shot 37.3% from 3-point range in those games.

For Minnesota, the value of rest goes beyond Edwards’ scoring average. If he has more burst, he can get downhill earlier in possessions. If he gets deeper into the paint, San Antonio’s help defense has to rotate harder. If the Spurs’ double-teams arrive a half-second later, the Timberwolves’ offense has more room to breathe.

That is the path Minnesota needs in Game 6.

The Wolves do not need Edwards to solve every possession by himself. They need him healthy enough to bend the Spurs’ defense and composed enough to find the right answers when San Antonio loads up on him.

Friday night will decide whether Minnesota gets one more chance.

The Timberwolves play next against the Spurs in Game 6 on Friday, May 15, at 9:30 p.m. ET. For Edwards and Minnesota, the two-day break is not a luxury. It may be the difference between forcing Game 7 and heading into the offseason.
