MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - APRIL 25: Ayo Dosunmu #13 of the Minnesota Timberwolves celebrates against the Denver Nuggets in the third quarter of Game Four of the First Round of the 2026 NBA Western Conference Playoffs at Target Center on April 25, 2026 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Timberwolves defeated the Nuggets 112-96.

With the help of Anthony Edwards returning from his injury quicker than his initial timeline, the Minnesota Timberwolves stole a Game 1 win over the San Antonio Spurs to open their second-round series.

But despite taking an early-series lead, the Timberwolves were without key guard Ayo Dosunmu, who was dealing with a calf injury that kept him sidelined in Game 1 and their clinching game over the Denver Nuggets in the previous round.

While Dosunmu’s calf injury was something he picked up in the regular season, he was listed as questionable heading into Game 2, but most recently, Minnesota upgraded his injury status to available for Wednesday night.

Timberwolves Announce Ayo Dosunmu Injury Update For Game 2

GettyMINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA – APRIL 25: Ayo Dosunmu #13 of the Minnesota Timberwolves walks off the floor after Game Four of the First Round of the 2026 NBA Western Conference Playoffs against the Denver Nuggets at Target Center on April 25, 2026 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Timberwolves defeated the Nuggets 112-96.

Dosunmu is set to play in Game 2 for the Timberwolves, despite initially missing the first game of the series and previously being questionable for the upcoming contest.

“The Timberwolves say Ayo Dosunmu has been upgraded to AVAILABLE after missing Game 1 against the Spurs with his right calf injury management,” NBA reporter and insider Brett Siegel wrote on X.

The calf injury he was, and apparently still is dealing with, stems back to the final stretch of the regular season, as he missed a few games with a health concern that team reporter Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic described as ‘concerning.’

However, while he did miss just two games, the Timberwolves could use Dosunmu more than ever, as seen with his performance in their Game 4 win over the Nuggets when both Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo went down with leg injuries.

Minnesota still has Mike Conley, Terrence Shannon, and Bones Hyland along with Edwards in the backcourt, but since he was acquired at the trade deadline, Dosunmu’s role in head coach Chris Finch’s rotation has only increased over the past few weeks and months.

While they missed him to start the series, the Timberwolves will now get back one of their most important players, as his playmaking and scoring responsibility as Minnesota continues to make a run without DiVincenzo and the not-100% Edwards.

Anthony Edwards Injury News Lingers For Timberwolves

GettyDENVER, COLORADO – APRIL 18: Anthony Edwards #5 of the Minnesota Timberwolves reacts against the Denver Nuggets in the first quarter during Game One of the First Round of the NBA Western Conference Playoffs at Ball Arena on April 18, 2026 in Denver, Colorado.

Edwards went down with a bone bruise and hyperextension in his left knee in Game 4 of Minnesota’s series against Denver. He was expected to be out for at least two weeks, but after an extraordinary recovery, he returned for the Timberwolves in just nine days, helping lead them to a Game 1 win over the Spurs with 11 fourth-quarter points.

While Edwards remains the most important factor in Minnesota’s success, he is not completely healthy, as his recent left knee injuries are just a few of the health concerns he’s faced this season.

Edwards has tried multiple treatments over the last several days, including hyperbaric chamber sessions, to expedite his timetable. He will go through his pregame warmups with the plan to play. For the Wolves, an unforeseen healing period over the last 24 hours that has Edwards… https://t.co/jSgnSxUrwc

Though the star did return for Game 1, shortly after, he was officially listed as questionable heading into Game 2.

Anthony Slater of ESPN reported that Edwards would get treatment in San Antonio in between the first two games of the series, adding that Finch told reporters the star was “So far, so good,” since returning from the injury. But still, that didn’t stop the team from giving him the ‘questionable’ tag heading into Game 2.

Edwards’ injury status remains up in the air, but he was listed as questionable for multiple games in the Timberwolves’ series against the Nuggets, and did end up playing in each before going down with his most recent knee issue.

While the Timberwolves will announce a final update on their franchise star for Game 2, the good news is that they are at least getting Dosunmu back for Wednesday night.

If Edwards doesn’t play, it will be him, Jaden McDaniels, and Julius Randle taking on a brunt of the scoring responsibility, but after what they did to the Nuggets, plus stealing Game 1 against a top-tier Spurs team, Minnesota can’t be counted out, regardless of who they are missing on a game-to-game basis.

Game 2 of the Timberwolves vs Spurs series tips off at 8:30 pm CST on Wednesday, May 6, and will be live on ESPN.
