Dracaena cinnabari, also known as the Socotra dragon tree or the dragon blood tree, is a species of dragon tree native to the island of Socotra, part of Yemen, in the Arabian Sea. Growing to a height of 9 metres (30 ft), it develops a distinctive umbrella-shaped crown adapted to the arid conditions of its habitat. The tree produces a dark-red resin known as dragon's blood, historically used as a dye, medicine and varnish. The species is threatened by overgrazing, habitat degradation and increasing aridity, and is classified as a vulnerable species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. This D. cinnabari tree was photographed on the Diksam Plateau on Socotra.
