Carl Olson, professor at the Neuroscience Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, died Nov. 23, 2024.

Matthew Smith, co-director of CMU’s Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition (CNBC) and S.P. Arun, professor and chair of the Center for Neuroscience at the Indian Institute of Science, described Olson as a colleague and mentor who “provided important insights into a wide range of fundamental issues in the neural basis of cognition with elegant experiments and incisive analyses.” They also reflected that he was a “deep and rigorous thinker with an exhaustive knowledge of the field.”
