Bogdan's Blog – Stop Using Spreadsheets for Your Manga Collection
Bogdan · 2026-01-11 · via Bogdan's Blog

January 11, 2026

Usually, my job here is to dissect North Korean malware, explain why the job market is a burning dumpster fire, or point at the latest way corporations are reaching deeper into your pockets and encroaching on your privacy.

So, for once, let's talk about something that actually works and makes life a little bit better.

A good friend of mine wanted a simple way to track his manga collection, the shows he's watching, and the movies he's seen. Like many of us, he tried spreadsheets, random apps, and various trackers.

Nothing quite worked the way he wanted, so he did what any self-respecting developer would do, and built his own.

Konsumr cover

The result is Konsumr: a media tracker that understands the difference between a Standard edition and a Deluxe edition, tracks episodes without making you feel like you're filing paperwork, and doesn't slowly turn into a full-time job.

Rather than paraphrase badly, I'll just shamelessly lift the reasons to use it from his Why Konsumr page:

Manga

Most trackers count manga by chapters. Konsumr tracks by real volumes. The physical manga on your shelf.

Got multiple editions of the same series? Standard, Deluxe, Omnibus, Box Sets. You can track what you own separately from what you've read.

There's a missing volumes list that shows you what you're missing from your collection, with release dates so you know if something's even out yet. ISBNs and links to buy from Amazon or Libristo.

Using a spreadsheet for tracking manga? I'd be happy to help you import your data into Konsumr. No pressure to switch or commit.

TV Shows

Check off episodes as you watch them. Season by season, with progress bars so you can see how far along you are. Works for regular TV and anime.

Your watch time is tracked automatically based on episode runtimes. Thumbs up or down when you finish. No agonizing over whether something is a 7 or an 8.

Movies

Keep a watchlist of stuff you want to see. Log what you've watched. Same thumbs up/down rating system.

Your total watch time is tracked here too. Build up your viewing history over time.

Calendar

See upcoming episodes, movie releases, and new manga volumes from stuff you're tracking. No more googling when episode 5 comes out.

You can get daily notifications on Discord if you want to know what's releasing that day.

Profile

Your profile shows your stats, watch time, manga collection, and everything you're tracking. You can make it public to share with others or keep it private.

There's also XP, levels, daily streaks, and achievements if you're into that. Makes tracking a bit more fun.

And that was the pitch. I've watched Aldo build this thing, iterate on it, and actually use it himself.

And best of all, he wants it to be free to use, forever.

You know it's gonna be good when it's his default solution and not just “another project".

I think my personal favorite is that it has an actual manga database. Most “everything” trackers either don’t support manga at all, or they make you manually type titles like you’re doing inventory in an Amazon warehouse.

And for the record, I have no horse in this race other than wanting his project to succeed.
No sponsored post, no “please use my code for 10% off.” I just like seeing well-made tools win (especially when they're made by friends).

I hope you enjoyed this change of pace, because I'm not planning on being positive for a while, it's all downhill from here.

Unhinged SEO section

Track what you watch, track what you read,

Check off the episodes, feed all that greed

No seven-point ratings, no spreadsheet despair,
Just thumbs up or down and I’m outta your hair.

Thumbs up, thumbs down, keep moving along,
My collection stays right and my nights stay long.
