Vector Faculty Member Marzyeh Ghassemi leads a team that is among those receiving COVID-19 research funding through the Canadian Institutes for Health Reserach’s Rapid Research Response program.

The team, which includes Vector Faculty Affiliate Amol Verma, intends to use the grant to ramp up the GEMINI data for COVID-19 research by supporting an expansion of the number of hospitals contributing data, the type of data submitted, and the frequency with which it’s added. Additionally, these funds will be used to create a computing environment that supports state-of-the-art machine learning research.

They are among 139 research teams from across the country that are receiving funding through the program. In total, CIHR is investing more than $109 million over one year in COVID-19 research focused on accelerating the development, testing, and implementation of measures to mitigate the rapid spread of COVID-19 and its negative consequences on people, communities, and health systems.
