The Mansion House dinner each summer is normally a chance for the City of London to hear what’s on the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s mind. Except this year, nobody’s sure who the chancellor will be.
When the event takes place on July 14, Rachel Reeves may have three days left in the job. Andy Burnham is set to become prime minister shortly after, if no one emerges within the Labour Party to oppose him, and he is expected to change the minister in charge of Britain’s finances.
