Romeo Beckham Making Acting Debut in Tennis Romance ‘Fort...

Studiocanal has unveiled a first look at Romeo Beckham in his acting debut “Forty Love,” directed by renowned fashion photographer Pierre-Ange Carlotti.

“Forty Love,” which marks the first directorial outing of Carlotti, is produced by Hugo Sélignac and Paco de Bary at Chi-Fou-Mi Productions, a Mediawan company, and co-produced by Studiocanal and Manna Studios.

Beckham stars opposite Paul Kircher (“The Animal Kingdom”), Guillaume Canet (“Sink or Swim”) and Benjamin Voisin (“The Stranger”), with an appearance from Catherine Deneuve. The movie is scored by 070 Shake and Johan Lenox.

The story revolves around Sacha Gallo, a tennis superstar who’s been training with his father to win a major trophy in Paris. But the arrival of a charismatic new rival — played by Beckham — challenges everything Sacha thought he understood about competition, ambition and himself. “For the first time, he faces an opponent of an entirely different nature — love,” the synopsis reads. “A force as exhilarating as it is destabilizing — and far more dangerous than anything he has encountered on the court.”

Beckham, the son of soccer legend David and designer Victoria, has been modeling for several years for the biggest luxury brands like Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga.

Sélignac, who had five movies world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and is producing the next Leos Carax movie starring Jenna Ortega, said he’s “long admired [Carlotti’s] work as a photographer.”

“There is a rare tenderness, melancholy and strength in his images, and his move into directing felt like a natural next step to me,” Selignac said, describing the film as a “sensual, romantic and deeply moving romantic fable and coming-of-age story” about the “demands of high-level sport, and everything that lies beneath the surface … led by outstanding performances.”

Carlotti penned the script with Gaëlle Macé, whose credits include Rebecca Zlotowski’s “A Private Life” starring Jodie Foster.

On top of co-producing, Studiocanal is handling worldwide sales and will release “Forty Love” theatrically in France on Nov. 25.

Chloé Marquet, Studiocanal’s head of international sales for films and TV, said: “Carlotti’s singular visual language gives the film a real edge, while its exploration of desire, competition and identity will resonate with audiences worldwide.”

Selignac, whose best-known credits include critically acclaimed crowdpleasers such as “Beating Hearts” and “All Your Faces,” presented a record five movies at this year’s Cannes, notably Jeanne Herry’s Palme d’Or contender “Garance,” starring Adele Exarchopoulos, and Quentin Dupieux’s “Full Phil” with Kristen Stewart and Woody Harrelson.
