NIST/BIBIB Symposium

Credit: NIBIB

This Symposium is a one-day event to address the question: “which medical measurements and consensus standards should be prioritized to support future U.S. healthcare?” The focus will be on medical imaging, medical devices, and diagnostics. The goal is to generate a Medical Metrology and Standards Roadmap from diverse stakeholders that will identify social and economic benefits of improved measurements and standards to the US Healthcare Infrastructure and establish future directions.

There will be invited talks from leaders in clinical medicine, medical device companies, medical societies, and government agencies whose mission involves healthcare. The Symposium will include some short talks from NIST researchers, NIBIB staff, and NIBIB-funded investigators. The invited talks will be followed by panel discussions to address questions/comments from participants and elicit ideas and content for the roadmap. Online attendance is free and participation from all stakeholders is encouraged.

Note that this Symposium precedes and is paired with the NCI Quantitative Imaging Network workshop held at NIH the following day. Importantly, there will be a Request for Information solicitation to ensure all input is received for this Symposium.

Posters/displays from organizations with a role in Medical Metrology and Standards, are highly encouraged. Deadline for abstract submission is Friday, Sept. 11, 2026. Please direct questions to stephen.russek [at] nist.gov (stephen[dot]russek[at]nist[dot]gov) or martin.tornai [at] nih.gov (martin[dot]tornai[at]nih[dot]gov) for further information regarding abstracts, posters and display options.
