Washington - The Reform Government Surveillance (RGS) coalition today released a statement welcoming the European Commission’s positive adequacy decision on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. The decision is an important step to providing stability for cross-border data flows, increasing data privacy, and protecting consumers across the globe.

“RGS commends the European Commission on its decision determining the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework provides comparable and ‘adequate’ privacy safeguards to those of the EU under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The Framework will advance data privacy, support EU-U.S. data flows, and address the concerns raised by the Court of Justice of the European Union in Schrems II. For years, companies of all sizes have operated in a challenging environment when transferring data between the EU and U.S., and this decision will provide the certainty necessary to continue providing services to people who reside in the EU and around the world.”

“RGS acknowledges and appreciates the time and dedication from all governments and organizations that worked to finalize the agreement. It is a large undertaking but an excellent example of countries working together to protect citizens’ privacy rights in our global economy.”
