OpusDNS acquires fruits.co domain sales platform

Two newer domain businesses tie up.

Fruits.co lander
A fruits sales lander. OpusDNS announced today that it has acquired fruits.

OpusDNS, a domain reseller platform, announced today that it has acquired fruits.co, a domain sales platform.

Fruits launched in 2022 as a marketplace for a wide range of digital goods. The company, which counts Team Internet co-founder Stefan Wiegard as an investor, pivoted to focusing solely on domain names.

The company tackles a challenge for European domain sellers by integrating value-added tax compliance. Fruits founder Dr. Fabian Heuschele explained to Domain Name Wire in December:

“If you’re in Germany and sell a domain to a private individual in Spain, you have to apply Spanish VAT and remit it to the Spanish tax authorities. Fruits does that automatically and 100% correctly without any manual processes.”

At the time, fruits (the company stylizes its name with a lowercase f) had amassed 2.6 million domains on its platform.

It’s not just limited to European sellers and offers its sales system for a 9.9% commission.

Now it’s joining forces with OpusDNS, another company trying to upend the domain name market with a modern system built for how the internet works today.

OpusDNS was founded by people with deep backgrounds in domain reseller platforms, including Robbie Birkner, who co-founded Hexonet, and Hakan Ali, who cofounded InterNetX. Birkner was on DNW Podcast #556, explaining the market for reseller platforms.
