Five people were arrested Monday after a large fight at a restaurant near Downtown Crossing, according to police.

Boston police officers were called to Estella, a restaurant located at 49 Temple Place, at about 5:44 p.m. to help MBTA Transit Police manage a disturbance, according to a statement from BPD. Transit police requested help from BPD after “patrons became hostile toward officers.”

Transit police were “managing an active fight” when BPD officers arrived. Police did not say what caused the altercation, only that it had originated inside the restaurant.

The initial disturbance led to the arrests of two people. But as officers worked to clear the scene, multiple other fights broke out. Three additional people were arrested, according to BPD.

A spokesperson for transit police did not return a request for information Tuesday.

Estella hosted a watch party for the World Cup match between Cape Verde and Spain on Monday afternoon.

The restaurant got in hot water with authorities earlier this year after police broke up an after-hours party attended by Patriots players.

After officers reportedly found the players partying with strippers, hookahs, and their own bottles of liquor, Boston officials suspended Estella’s liquor license for one day. The Boston Licensing Board found violations concerning indoor smoking, unauthorized adult entertainment, and after-hours liquor consumption.
