Brian Windhorst blows cold air on Celtics-Giannis trade rumors: While NBA insiders have teased out a string of reports regarding a possible Giannis Antetokounmpo trade to the Celtics during the offseason, not everyone is buying into the rumors.

Speaking to ESPN Cleveland earlier this week, NBA reporter Brian Windhorst noted that the price the Bucks would want for Antetokounmpo — a two-time MVP and 2021 NBA champion — will invariably be high.

To this point, per Windhorst, no team has made a legitimate offer for the Greek star.

“What they’re being offered is just not that,” Windhorst said of the requisite package to enable the trading of a franchise pillar like Antetokounmpo. He continued, noting that the Celtics rumors might be overblown.

“I know some people are linking him to Boston, but I have not personally heard that Giannis, Boston and Milwaukee are serious about it,” he told ESPN Cleveland. “That’s out there. I’m not saying that it hasn’t happened, but I haven’t heard it.”

Windhorst noted all of the common considerations regarding a possible trade for Milwaukee’s longtime leading scorer. Along with being 31, Antetokounmpo is heading into the final year of his locked-in contract (he has a player option in 2027-28), and has dealt with injuries in recent seasons.

Still, he would instantly help shore up a Celtics front court that struggled during its playoff loss against the 76ers. Any deal for Antetokounmpo would only further amplify Boston’s intent to win in the short term.

Trivia: After completing a same-day trade, what player did the Celtics end up with after the first round of the 2013 NBA Draft instead of Giannis Antetokounmpo?

(Answer at the bottom).

Hint: He was born in Toronto.

Scores and schedules:

The Red Sox lost to the Braves 10-2 on Thursday. Boston begins a three-game series against the Guardians in Cleveland tonight at 7:10 p.m.

On Saturday, Legacy FC will face the Current in Kansas City at 1:30 p.m.

Also on Saturday — with the start of the World Cup only weeks away — Paris Saint-Germain will play Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League final at 12 p.m.

Fenway Park history: Here’s some interesting background about the Green Monster via NESN (and The Sports Museum), including the evolution of the left field wall through neighborhood fires, rebuilds, and the little known fact that it was replaced by a replica in the early 21st century.

On this day: In 1993, Jose Canseco made his pitching debut in the final inning of a Red Sox blowout win over the Rangers. Though it undeniably provided a moment of levity in an otherwise unremarkable moment, the power hitter inadvertently injured his elbow. He would later be ruled out for the season after getting surgery to repair it.

As for his inning pitched, it was a forgettable performance: Canseco walked the bases loaded, allowing two singles and a sacrifice fly, yielding three runs before he retired the side. The Red Sox won 15-1.

Daily highlight: Despite facing a lopsided scoreline, Ceddanne Rafaela was still laying out to make plays in the Red Sox outfield on Thursday.
