App lifecycle management with App Volumes: Now available ...
Nilesh Deo · 2026-03-04 · via Omnissa

Just last year, we introduced our Apps Essentials offering, powered by App Volumes, to help IT streamline the delivery of apps across virtual desktops, published app hosts, and traditional Windows PCs. With the latest App Volumes 2512 release, we’re excited to build on that foundation with meaningful enhancements that extend application lifecycle management (ALM) capabilities to Windows PCs, helping reduce app management costs.

This release focuses on the following core themes:

  • A single ALM platform across any Windows endpoint
  • Expanded platform support with Nutanix
  • Improved package quality and governance
  • Better end-user transparency and IT efficiency

App Volumes Manager for Windows endpoints: Now generally available

For organizations managing a mix of Windows PCs/ desktops, application lifecycle management has often meant juggling multiple tools and processes, especially if you have a mix of virtual and traditional Windows endpoints. With the 2512 release, App Volumes Manager now delivers full application lifecycle management (ALM) to  Windows PCs/ desktops. With this milestone, a single App Volumes solution now supports:

  • Application packaging and capture
  • Consistent app delivery across virtual and physical devices
  • Markers and rollback for effective day-two app management
  • Version control and governance with the App Volumes UI

This means IT teams can not only deliver but also manage their entire Windows application portfolio—from VDI to laptops—using a single solution.

Support for both VHD and MSI packages

Applications can now be captured and delivered using either VHD or MSI formats, enabling consistent replication across file shares and compressed delivery to endpoints.

Local copy mode for reliable delivery

The App Volumes Agent now supports a local copy mode, ensuring dependable application delivery to physical devices while preserving the App Volumes packaging and lifecycle framework.

Advanced lifecycle governance

Offline use, multi-version support, and smoother transitions between application stages in App Volumes give administrators more flexibility while maintaining control and compliance.

Note: Advanced lifecycle capabilities for physical endpoints require the Omnissa Apps Essentials license.

Better visibility for end users during background package delivery

End-user experience is just as important as administrator efficiency. In this release, the App Volumes Agent now provides a lightweight notification when applications are being prepared in the background after a download.

This simple but impactful enhancement:

  • Improves transparency during application delivery
  • Reduces confusion and perceived delays
  • Helps prevent unnecessary helpdesk tickets

Most importantly, users can continue working uninterrupted while applications are finalized in the background.

Cleaner packages with Windows Update detection

Application capture accuracy is critical to long-term stability. In the 2512 release, App Volumes now checks whether Windows Update is enabled before capture begins. If Windows Update is active, administrators are alerted before packaging starts, preventing:

  • OS-layer files from being included unintentionally
  • Metadata bloat and contamination
  • Version drift across Windows builds

The result is cleaner, more predictable application packages that behave consistently across environments.

Apps on Demand now supported for Nutanix

As part of our continued commitment to platform flexibility, App Volumes now supports Published Apps on Demand for Horizon deployments running on Nutanix. With this capability, applications are assigned dynamically, apps launch on-demand without pre-provisioning, and infrastructure resources are used only when needed.

Simplified troubleshooting with configurable log levels

Operational efficiency matters, especially in production environments. Administrators can now adjust App Volumes Manager logging levels directly from the admin UI — without restarting services. Benefits of this feature include:

  • Faster troubleshooting and diagnostics
  • Reduced operational overhead
  • Continuous service availability

As organizations continue to modernize application delivery and management, Omnissa remains focused on providing simple, unified, and scalable solutions that work everywhere your workforce does.
