Most consumer devices are designed for broad appeal and feature-rich experiences, but enterprise organizations often need something more specialized. In this interview, NEXA’s Janelle Degregio discusses how its RHINO platform enables rapid customization of Android devices to meet unique business requirements without the time and cost associated with building hardware from scratch.
According to NEXA, most customer engagements begin with the RHINO platform, a flexible foundation that can be adapted for specific business needs. Customizations can range from simple cosmetic changes, such as unique branding, logo placement, camera covers, or memory configurations, to highly specialized solutions built around a core device platform.
Because these solutions leverage an existing certified hardware architecture, organizations can avoid many of the costs, risks, and certification challenges that come with developing a completely new device. NEXA says many customized solutions can move from concept to production in as little as six months.
The discussion highlights several examples of how organizations are using customized devices in real-world settings:
Rather than offering one-size-fits-all products, NEXA works with organizations to identify the specific sensors, connectivity, features, and form factors required for a particular use case.
Wearables are one of the fastest-growing areas of demand, but every deployment requires different capabilities. NEXA explained that it uses a modular wearable platform that can be configured with various sensors, bands, and connectivity options depending on customer requirements.
Examples include:
The goal is to provide exactly the functionality customers need without adding unnecessary features that increase complexity or cost.
NEXA has also expanded into kiosk and large-format device solutions. One example discussed is a kiosk deployment used for concession ordering at Yankee Stadium. Another is a 22-inch interactive healthcare display that allows patients to communicate with family members, stream entertainment, order meals, and interact with hospital staff, while enabling clinicians to securely access patient information and enter updates.
The conversation also highlighted a practical example from Stratix’s own operations. Stratix uses a highly sensitive NEXA-powered scale in its production facility as part of the company’s quality control process.
Before a shipment leaves the facility, each package is weighed to verify that every required component is included. The system is sensitive enough to identify missing accessories, cables, or documentation, helping prevent fulfillment errors before products reach customers.
This type of automation helps improve operational efficiency, reduce errors, and enhance customer satisfaction.
Many organizations approach NEXA with ideas they initially believe are too complex or unconventional to pursue. Whether it’s a wearable, kiosk, healthcare display, marine device, or an entirely new concept, NEXA’s approach is to collaborate with customers and determine what’s possible.
