Responding in Nepal After Deadly Floods

Our 767 has delivered a large load of emergency supplies. Please pray for access to affected areas. Christian partners are already distributing relief.

Latest Updates
  • Our 767 cargo plane has arrived in Nepal with nearly 85,000 pounds of relief to deliver to flood survivors. The load includes shelter material (tarp), water filters, solar lights, and blankets.
  • Hundreds of families are already receiving relief through our Christian partners on the ground. Our disaster relief specialists on the ground are working to get more relief to families.
  • Deadly flash flooding struck in Nepal and along the Nepal-Tibet border in late August. Nearly 1,300 people are confirmed dead. More than 4,800 remain missing.

Our 767 cargo plane landed in Kathmandu on Sept. 2. Local Christians partners are already assisting families. We have a Disaster Assistance Response Team on the ground.

“The devastation in Nepal is unimaginable,” said Franklin Graham. “We’re all heartbroken to see the death toll continue to climb, and many families are still waiting for news of their missing loved ones even as they have been left with nothing but the clothes on their backs. It’s important that we work quickly to help ease as much suffering as possible. We want the people of Nepal to know that God loves them, and I ask everyone to join us in continuing to pray for them.”

The communities we are serving are situated in river valleys where water levels rose as much as 30 feet in half an hour. A terrifying and deadly wall of water surged through the narrows. For many miles, the force of water and debris destroyed buildings, homes, bridges, and roads. Families only had mere minutes to flee to higher ground.

Samaritan’s Purse has developed a network of local churches and Christian groups, invaluable ministry relationships formed during our response to the terrible 2015 earthquake.

Mud and debris surround homes and other structures in mountainous, flood ravaged areas of Nepal.
Houses and whole communities flooded in the wake of a glacial avalanche in remote Nepal as landslides pushed a terrifying and deadly wall of water through narrow river canyons.

Please Pray as Search and Rescue Continues

Please keep praying for communities and for teams and partners helping them. As search-and-rescue operations continue, there are fears of additional flooding in the region. Please pray for more survivors to be found in the coming hours and days. Pray for safe access to continue bringing relief in Jesus’ Name to the hard-to-reach areas. Finally, lift up families around the world who are grieving the loss of loved ones.
