Imprivata Ready Certification validates Citrix Unicon: A practical guide for healthcare IT

What’s new:

  • Citrix Unicon OS is now Imprivata Ready certified for healthcare environments using Imprivata EAM
  • Unicon endpoints are validated for production use with Imprivata authentication workflows
  • Healthcare organizations gain greater deployment confidence, clearer support alignment, and reduced operational risk

In healthcare, secure access must be both seamless and reliable. Clinicians need to move quickly between workstations and applications, while IT teams must ensure authentication workflows meet strict security, compliance, and support standards.

Completing the clinical access foundation

With Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops and Imprivata Enterprise Access Management, healthcare organizations already have a strong foundation. Now Citrix Unicon OS completes the picture by simplifying endpoint management and enabling fast, seamless authentication. To help meet these demands, Imprivata now officially supports Citrix Unicon as an Imprivata Ready integration, validating Unicon endpoints for healthcare environments that rely on Imprivata for secure authentication and access management.

This certification confirms that Unicon meets Imprivata’s functional requirements for key healthcare workflows and is approved for use in production environments.

For healthcare IT teams, this removes ambiguity around endpoint selection and deployment. Unicon can be introduced with confidence, knowing authentication workflows are aligned and validated across vendors.

As Eric Bégoc, Product Manager for Citrix Unicon, explains:

“This certification marks the point where healthcare customers can confidently deploy Unicon, knowing that the core Imprivata workflows they rely on are validated – with clear alignment across vendors.”

This reduces uncertainty around deployment, simplifies troubleshooting, and ensures customers can rely on a supported configuration when moving into production.

Supported healthcare authentication workflows

Unicon endpoints are validated for critical clinical authentication workflows, including:

  • Fast User Switching (FUS) for shared clinical workstations
  • Tap‑and‑go authentication using Imprivata-enrolled proximity cards
  • End-to-end authentication flows, from Unicon login through Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD) or Citrix DaaS sessions and into EHR applications such as Epic
  • Production deployment in shared, high‑availability clinical environments
  • These workflows are essential in environments where clinicians authenticate repeatedly across shared devices and time‑critical applications.

Why this matters for healthcare organizations

Healthcare providers are under constant pressure to reduce friction at the point of care without compromising security or compliance.

Henry Vernov, Principal Healthcare Product Manager at Citrix, highlights the impact:

“Imprivata is foundational in healthcare for secure, streamlined access. With Imprivata support for Unicon, organizations gain a more secure and manageable endpoint that simplifies operations for IT teams while improving the experience for clinicians.”

For clinicians, this means faster access and fewer interruptions. For IT teams, it means reduced endpoint complexity, fewer vendors to coordinate, and confidence that authentication workflows are supported across the ecosystem.

A clear path to production with Imprivata and Unicon

For organizations that previously delayed adoption due to certification or support requirements, this validation provides a clear path forward.

Unicon enables healthcare teams to introduce a hardened, purpose‑built OS incrementally—without requiring an immediate, full‑scale device replacement. Centralized management and migration tools support a phased, low‑risk transition.

Strengthening the healthcare endpoint ecosystem

Imprivata support for Unicon represents an important step in strengthening the healthcare endpoint ecosystem.

As healthcare organizations continue modernizing digital workspaces, validated solutions like Imprivata and Citrix Unicon help establish a strong foundation for secure, efficient, and clinician‑friendly care delivery.
