A 55-year-old woman has died after getting into difficulty in the water at a country park.

Emergency services were called to Swan Pool in West Bromwich at around 4.45pm on Saturday, June 27, following reports of a person in trouble in the water.

Firefighters from West Midlands Fire Service, including specialist water rescue crews from the Technical Rescue Unit, along with teams from Handsworth, Tipton and West Bromwich fire stations, were sent to the scene.

The first crews arrived within around five minutes.

Despite the efforts of firefighters, police officers and paramedics, the 55-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene after being recovered from the water.

West Midlands Police said: 'Our thoughts are with her family at this tragic time.

'Her death is not being treated as suspicious at this time and we will be liaising with the coroner.'

'Very sadly, despite the very best efforts of West Midlands Fire Service and our partners at West Midlands Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service, a 55-year-old woman died at the scene.

'Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died.'

It is the latest in a number of water deaths during this summer's hot weather.

On Saturday, police recovered the body of a 22-year-old man, Brody Leach, who was reported to have entered the river in Shrewsbury in the early hours on Friday.

Elsewhere, a man died at a beach in Essex on Friday, while on Wednesday, a 50-year-old man was pronounced dead at Aberavon beach after getting into difficulty while swimming in the sea off the south coast of Wales.

A teenage boy also died after he entered a lake to 'cool off' during the heatwave in Leicestershire.

Hayden Jones-Powell, 13, went missing after going for a swim at Meynell Lake on Thursday

His family has described the West Bromwich Albion fan as a 'cheeky boy.'

During the heatwave in May, Lillianna Tomlinson also lost her life after getting into difficulties at Kingsbury Water Park near Tamworth, Staffordshire., on Bank Holiday Monday, May 25.

Emergency rescue teams hurried to the scene at 6.10pm and spent over an hour searching the lake before her body was retrieved at 7.20pm.

Eyewitnesses said that the teenager had been part of a group of young people jumping from a bridge into the water when she vanished beneath the surface.

In an official statement, her family said: 'We're deeply saddened to be writing that Lillianna's life has been taken in the most tragic way.'
