Outrage over plans to hold singles night for UNVACCINATED...
2026-05-15 · via News | Mail Online

A Colorado beer garden canceled an unauthorized dating event for antivaxxers after locals were outraged at the prospect - but event organizers said the restaurant was well aware singles would be descending ahead of time.

Recess Beer Garden in Denver claims it found out that it was tapped to host Unjected's dating event for unvaccinated singles on May 29 from social media.

Denver locals, who largely voted Democratic in the last election, begged the beloved establishment to cancel the 'MAGA' event and warned the meet up could become a 'measles party.'

'Y'all are putting your staff in danger :) you cool with that?' one questioned.

'Is this where the measles party will be orrrr?' another asked.

'Ground zero for the next outbreak. Have a backbone!' a third wrote.

Another also called for Recess to call off the event, writing: 'There is still time to refuse to facilitate that meet up btw.'

'What if you didn't host antivaxxers?' another Instagram user asked.

The backlash came after the event organizers posted a flyer advertising the unauthorized event at Recess, but as of Wednesday evening, the singles mixer was canceled.

Recess Beer Garden in Denver canceled an unauthorized event hosted by Unjected after it received backlash from its customers

Unjected had not booked the space for the event, founder Shelby Hosana told the Daily Mail. The company does not book space prior as the attendance rate is unknown beforehand

'Recess did not organize, sponsor, authorize, or book this event,' the establishment said in a statement. 'We learned about it through social media, where our venue was promoted without our knowledge or involvement.'

The beer garden cited the official reason behind the cancelation as being that Unjected did not comply with its event protocol. It also cited the growing online 'hostility and safety concerns' as another reason unvaccinated Denver singles will not be finding love on their back patio later this month.

'The safety and well-being of our staff and guests will always come first,' it said in a statement posted to social media.

Management said Unjected's event created 'hostile rhetoric' toward staff, who face harassment through hateful language and online attacks. The business also said critics spewed threats toward Recess as well.

Unjected fired back online, saying Recess 'bent over to the woke mob' and asked who else wanted their business, while posting the email they received from the beer garden about the cancelation on their Instagram story.

'As with any organized event of this size, advance coordination and authorization are required before a venue can be publicly promoted as a host location,' Recess wrote to Unjected.

'This gathering was publicly advertised without prior communication or approval from our management team.'

The event organizers called the beer garden's management team 'vaccine cultists.'

Recess said in a statement it found out about the event on social media and canceled due to Unjected not following event protocol and for the safety of their staff, who had received threats

Unjected fired back and said the popular beer garden 'bent over to the woke mob'

In private messages shared by Unjected and obtained by the Daily Mail, the beer garden told Unjected's founder Shelby Hosana prior to the cancelation: 'We just serve beer, man,' while also acknowledging that the establishment was not sponsoring the event.

'Recess is not affiliated with or sponsoring this gathering in any capacity,' the beer garden wrote in a private message on Monday.

'We work hard to maintain a neutral and welcoming atmosphere for all guests and do not want the event represented in a way that implies political or brand affiliation with Recess. We appreciate your understanding.'

Unjected called the cancelation an 'embarrassment' on Recess' part, saying it was a 'bad look in 2026' to bend to the 'woke mob.'

Hosana told the Daily Mail that Recess was aware they were planning an event and only changed course after receiving backlash and threats.

'Once the vaccine mob came after them, they quickly changed their tune and tried to change the narrative that we were holding an event without their permission,' Hosana told the Daily Mail.

'None of that was true,' she continued. 'I never intended on having an event, because we never had any sort of set [number of] people. It could have been three people, it could have five, you never really know how many people [will] show up.'

Unjected does not book spaces prior to the events, Hosana clarified.

Hosana told the Daily Mail that the event will be reschedule and they already have a new venue for it, which has not been publicly announced yet

Private messages obtained by the Daily Mail between Recess and Unjected showed the beer garden was aware of the event as of Monday, but was not 'sponsoring this gathering in any capacity'

The company said they 'just serve beer, man' and Hosana promised the group would be welcoming

Unjected has hosted 'decentralized' events that have been as small as 15 to 30 people before, while also having hosted larger events with up to 150 people.

'It can get pretty large,' Hosana told the Daily Mail.

Recess told the Daily Mail that Unjected 'never formally contacted' them about hosting or organizing an event and 'no approval was ever given for it to take place at our establishment.'

'As information was unfolding in real time online, our staff initially responded in the same neutral and hospitable manner we would extend to anyone inquiring about visiting our business while management worked to better understand the situation,' it told the Daily Mail in regard to the private messages.

'Once the scale of the event, lack of prior authorization, and escalating safety concerns became clear, the decision was made that the event would not be permitted to take place at Recess Beer Garden.

Hosana claimed to the Daily Mail that the beer garden was 'discriminating against them for medical decisions and their bodily autonomy to remain unvaccinated.'

'This is blatant discrimination and I feel sorry for those who are still unaware of what's really happened to society,' Hosana said.

The dating app company said it would reschedule its Denver event elsewhere, but hasn't publicly announced the new location.

'We're considering maybe doing a speakeasy where people can DM us for it,' Hosana said. 'But it is definitely still on. I would say this will be our largest mixer by far.'

The new location will be big enough to host a large gathering, which will be called a Freedom Mixer, she said.

'It's actually perfectly evident after what happened with Recess that it's not a conversation about unvaccinated and vaccinated,' Hosana told the Daily Mail. 'It's not an antivax movement, it's a pro-freedom movement.'
