Aussie dad, 57, handcuffed and marched out of Perth Airpo...

An Aussie dad was dramatically arrested in a busy airport after he allegedly threatened to 'blow this place up' and told a security guard to 'f*** off'.

Federal police were called to Perth Airport's international terminal on Wednesday after reports that a 57-year-old man had threatened the safety of others.

Officers quickly linked the man to an unattended backpack found in the terminal, which was examined by WA Police's bomb unit and declared safe.

Officers established an exclusion zone and the man, identified as Keiron Beau James Hedges by 9News, was arrested in Perth's CBD.

Hedges allegedly told a security guard to 'f*** off' when he was stopped after he attempted to walk through immigration without a passport, a court was told.

'I am going to blow this place up,' the 57-year-old is accused of saying.

Hedges has been charged with one count of threatening to destroy, damage, or endanger the safety of a Commonwealth aerodrome.

The maximum penalty for the offence is 10 years' imprisonment.

The 57-year-old allegedly threatened to 'blow up' Perth Airport on Wednesday

Crowds of passengers could be seen filling the international terminal

Crowds of passengers were forced to queued throughout the disruption, before the airport resumed operations following the dramatic arrest.

Hedges reportedly became angry and yelled when he appeared in court on Thursday, claiming there 'had been a misrepresentation of his actual words'.

The prosecutor opposed the father's request for bail release and told the magistrate that more charges could be laid.

Hedges was remanded into custody for a mental health assessment.

He is scheduled to face court next week.

AFP Detective Acting Superintendent Peter Brindal told reporters Hedges had behaved in a 'suspicious manner'.

'It was the manner of the way the bag was left by itself on top of, allegedly on top of a bin,' he told a press conference.

He said the force would not tolerate threats to aviation security.

'Travelling through airports should be a safe experience for passengers, staff and airline crew alike,' he said.
