Pentagon industrial base office launches supply chain inv...

The Defense Department today launched an interactive tool tracking its investments in bolstering domestic supply chains, called the Investment Intelligence Center.

The tool is a public, searchable dashboard allowing users to find data on more than $6.7 billion worth of investments from the Pentagon made under the Defense Production Act and Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment initiative, dating back to 2015.

“A resilient defense industrial base requires transparent partnerships between the government and private sector,” said Mike Cadenazzi, assistant secretary of defense for industrial base policy.

The dashboard offers data visualizations into the department’s efforts to expand and secure domestic supply chains using three tools -- an interactive map, a block chart and a keyword search.

The Intelligence Center’s landing page also shows a breakdown of data highlights, with 325 investments, more than 300 places of performance and an overall 11-year investment timeline tracked across the dashboard.

Cadenazzi also pointed to the importance of public-private partnership to mitigate issues facing the defense industrial base last week, when the Trump administration invoked authorities under the Defense Production Act allowing the Pentagon to work with industry on addressing U.S. munitions production bottlenecks.

“Sometimes we need the collective wisdom of all the assembled companies to collaborate and solve our problems for us,” Cadenazzi said at the time. “This tool and this designation allows us to go ahead and have those voluntary agreements set up for munitions writ large.”
