The Army has awarded Teledyne FLIR Defense a contract for its Rogue 1 loitering munition system, the company announced today.

Rogue 1 is an “optionally recoverable” unmanned aerial system with a vertical takeoff and landing capability allowing soldiers to “conduct precision strikes against moving and stationary targets, soft-skinned vehicles, and dismounted threats,” according to a company press release. 

Rogue 1 drones can fly for more than 30 minutes at a time at speeds of more than 70 miles per hour and have a targeting range of more than 12 miles, according to Teledyne FLIR. Soldiers can carry the system in a tube and do not need a launcher.

Teledyne FLIR will deliver up to 130 Rogue 1 systems for test and evaluation, according to the company. The value of the contract was not disclosed. 

The Army’s Low Altitude Stalking and Strike Ordnance program was started three years ago to rapidly field portable antitank uncrewed aircraft systems to dismounted infantry. Last week, the service awarded AeroVironment a prototyping contract for its Switchblade 400 loitering munition system as part of the LASSO program.
