The Space Force awarded Boeing $2 billion for the next two Mobile User Objective System communications satellites, according to a notice posted by the Pentagon today.

As part of the MUOS service life extension Phase II effort, the company will design, develop, build, provide launch support and on-orbit test support for the two satellites with work expected to be complete by the end of fiscal year 2035.

The service is seeking $855.9 million in research, development, test and evaluation funds for the narrowband SATCOM program in FY-27.

In the next fiscal year, according to budget justification documents, the Space Force plans to complete final design review of MUOS space vehicles 6 and 7.

The service life extension effort is intended to provide worldwide availability of the waveform used for MUOS into FY-35 and the supporting ground segment to FY-40, the documents state.
