The bulk of this Friday INSIDER Daily Digest has coverage of the Senate Armed Services Committee's fiscal year 2027 defense authorization bill.

The Defense Department has added another legislative proposal related to the FY-27 defense policy bill:

Pentagon requesting multiyear authority for a dozen munitions

The Pentagon is requesting multiyear procurement authority from Congress for a dozen munitions beginning in fiscal year 2027, according to a legislative proposal recently sent to Capitol Hill.

The Senate panel's FY-27 defense policy bill includes a provision prohibiting the use of the Industrial Base Fund to make equity investments:

Senate authorizers seek to guide use of Pentagon equity investments

The Senate Armed Services Committee wants to give the Defense Department's credit office authority to make equity investments, per the panel's version of the of the fiscal year 2027 defense policy bill.

The Senate Armed Services Committee’s draft defense policy bill would authorize an undisclosed amount of added funding for SLCM-N:

Senate defense bill would increase scrutiny of SLCM-N development

The Senate Armed Services Committee plans to increase congressional oversight of Defense and Energy department efforts to develop the sea-launched, nuclear-armed cruise missile after they declined to request funding for the program in fiscal year 2027.

The Senate bill would also restrict Economic Defense Unit funding until lawmakers receive briefings on the office's activities and a review of the companies in which the Pentagon holds equity stakes:

Congress seeks tighter oversight as DOD moves to institutionalize Economic Defense Unit

The Pentagon is seeking nearly $600 million for its new Economic Defense Unit, in addition to special hiring authority for up to 33 private-sector executives and funding growth through fiscal year 2031, moves that would cement the office's place inside the Defense Department even as Senate lawmakers seek new oversight of DOD’s equity investment activities.
