TV’s Best Horror Show Is Back With Another 100% Rotten Tomatoes Scored Season

Horror movies are often easy wins at the box office with small budgets and often lots of audience interest. Horror TV shows? They’re certainly growing in the streaming era, and there have been some great ones (The Haunting of Hill House may be my favorite Netflix show overall). Others are not watched enough, and you really need to check out FROM.

Not the best title, but FROM is about to start its fourth season as an MGM+ original, easily the best thing to come out of that service, which I’m guessing not that many people know exists. It is also the best horror show currently airing on TV, no matter how many serial killer series Ryan Murphy pumps out.

FROM returns with its second 100% Rotten Tomatoes scored season in a row. Season 3 also had a 100% score, season 2 had a 93% and season 1 had a 96%. That puts the show at a 97% overall. Audience score is a bit lower at an 80%, but there are a lot of complaints that it gets a little too “LOST-y” with its delayed answers to mysteries (ironic, given that it stars LOST’s Harold Perrineau). I think it does a better job than LOST of solving those mysteries, even if some don’t. This last season, especially, was fantastic in answering one of the series’ biggest questions. Though, of course, many remain.

From

Amazon

FROM has just been renewed for a fifth and final season, playing out the scope of the show in the way its creators intended, not wanting it to go on forever for its own sake. These are 10-episode seasons that release weekly, not in a binge, and the show has attracted more and more eyes over time, especially since it became heavily promoted by Amazon Prime Video, which owns MGM now.

The gist of FROM, if you haven’t seen it, is that unwitting travelers drive through a town, and once they do, they cannot leave. The road loops back around endlessly in some sort of ethereal trick. But you’re not just stuck there, you're stuck there avoiding an army of smiling, slow-walking people roaming around town at night who will…rip you to shreds, lest you find safety.

The mysteries, even from that description, are pretty obvious. What’s stopping everyone from leaving? Who are those people? How and when did all this start, and why? And plenty more will be introduced in time. We have answered at least one or two by this point, three seasons in, at least.

The show is occasionally frustrating but consistently excellent. It’s gory, horrifying, but endlessly interesting with a great, largely unknown cast who deserve to go on to great things when the series ends. Perrineau, especially, is stellar here. FROM season 4 is out, but you can watch all three seasons now on Amazon.
