UF Health Names Healthcare Vet Craig Richardville As New Tech Leader

UF Health, a multi-billion-dollar revenue health system, has announced Craig Richardville as its new Chief Digital and Information Officer, placing him at the helm of technology strategy for an organization that spans the University of Florida’s broad clinical network. He is stepping into a pivotal role at one of the nation’s leading academic health systems, bringing with him three decades of experience at the intersection of healthcare and technology. UF Health includes multiple hospitals, physician practices and research programs.

For Richardville, the appeal of the role was rooted in both mission and momentum. “What drew me to UF Health was the opportunity to lead at a premier academic health system that doesn’t just use technology, it pioneers it,” he emphasized. He pointed to the organization’s commitment to integrating AI and advanced data analytics into clinical environments, noting, “I wanted to be part of an environment where the next generation of digital health is being built.”

Richardville also praised UF Health’s structure, which tightly connects academic research with clinical care. “I was attracted to the ‘One UF’ vision: the seamless collaboration between the university and the health system to solve some of modern medicine’s most complex challenges,” he explained. That integration, he believes, creates an opportunity to align research, care delivery and digital innovation in ways that few organizations can replicate.

Richardville’s mandate reflects that ambition. “My mandate is to transform UF Health into a digitally native health system,” he said. That transformation involves moving beyond traditional IT and positioning technology as a strategic asset across the enterprise. Central to that effort is the use of artificial intelligence and modern data architecture to personalize care, improve efficiency and enhance both patient and provider experiences.

Richardville also highlighted the importance of integration across the system. “We are focused on creating a seamless One UF digital experience by integrating IT solutions across hospitals, physician practices and community clinics,” he noted. In parallel, he is prioritizing responsible innovation in AI, with an emphasis on operationalizing generative AI and predictive analytics in clinical settings. The goal is to move AI “from a buzzword to a clinical tool that unburdens the provider, improves the quality-of-care outcomes and provides an outstanding patient experience,” as he put it.

Richardville’s background is well suited to the challenge. Over a 30-year career, he has led large scale technology transformations across many of the nation’s largest health systems. Most recently, he served as Chief Digital and Information Officer at Intermountain Health and SCL Health, where he drove enterprise-wide digital initiatives. Earlier, he spent more than two decades at Atrium Health as Senior Vice President and Chief Information and Analytics Officer, helping establish the organization as a leader in data and digital capabilities. He also held CIO roles at ProMedica Health System and earlier leadership positions in information services, building deep experience in enterprise consolidation, operational scale and aligning technology with clinical priorities. “My past roles have taught me that success here isn’t just about the latest hype or technology,” he said. “It’s about aligning those tools with the mission of the clinicians and the needs of our patients.”

That perspective will be critical as UF Health continues to evolve. With its scale, academic depth and clinical reach, the organization is positioned to play a leading role in shaping the future of digital health. Richardville’s task now is to translate that potential into measurable impact, using technology not simply to support the system, but to redefine how care is delivered.
