Introducing Wiz Cloud Cost: Powering Cost Management and ...
Rotem Zarin, Or Tzabary, Allison Jackson, Avital Katz · 2026-06-08 · via Wiz Blog | RSS feed

Cloud spend scales with cloud infrastructure, driven by decisions made across dozens of teams. This spend powers business growth, but as cloud environments grow in complexity, waste creeps in. Idle VMs, unattached volumes, excessive shadow data, overprovisioned resources, inefficient storage types, and other costly configurations silently inflate cloud bills. AI compounds the problem, accelerating the pace of new development and adding unpredictable token spend to the total.

To drive cost efficiency in the cloud, organizations must separate waste from essential spend. That requires context you can’t see on the cloud bill: resource utilization rates, resource configuration details, how resources connect to each other and what workloads they support. It also requires driving cost accountability back to engineering teams: identifying resource owners, providing cost visibility, and guidance for implementing cost optimization recommendations.

At Wiz, we've spent years solving the visibility, context, and ownership challenges in the cloud for security and engineering teams. Now, we’re bringing our deep cloud context and expertise to FinOps.

We’re introducing Wiz Cloud Cost to help teams effectively manage, optimize, and govern cloud and AI spend. Wiz Cloud Cost unifies visibility across cloud providers, maps costs to owners, proactively surfaces savings opportunities, and provides actionable optimization guidance.

Unified Context for Cloud Operational Excellence

With the addition of Cloud Cost, Wiz now brings cloud management, cloud security, and cloud inventory management into a single platform and operating model. This allows all cloud stakeholders to operate with shared visibility and context to answer questions about their cloud infrastructure and optimize effectively.

Wiz Cloud Cost deploys in minutes through Wiz’s agentless connectors, bringing normalized cost and usage data from AWS, Azure, and GCP environments directly into the Wiz Graph. The graph builds a complete map of the cloud estate, including every resource and its relationships to paint a full picture of your infrastructure and applications. With cost data in the graph, teams can visualize an application service and see the cost of each resource, along with any cost optimization opportunities and security findings Wiz has surfaced. This allows teams to answer questions like:

  • What’s the total spend for my application?

  • Are there overprovisioned resources in this service?

  • If I migrated to a different storage type, what other resources would be impacted?

  • Do I have vulnerable resources that are idle or unattached?

Infrastructure and application owners can view both cost findings and security findings for the resources they own, allowing them to proactively reduce risk and keep cost in check, often through the same actions.

Drive Cost Visibility and Accountability

Driving a culture of FinOps requires bringing cost visibility and accountability to stakeholder teams. Wiz was designed from the start to democratize cloud visibility and context across teams at enterprise scale. We do this through several platform features:

  • Projects and cost attribution: Projects allow Wiz customers to map cloud resources to teams, business units, or products. FinOps teams can use projects to allocate costs and drive cost showback and accountability to teams. Projects can be used to filter any dashboard or view in Wiz, providing tailored views for each group.

  • RBAC: Role-based access control in Wiz can be scoped at the project level, allowing you to give users visibility into costs for their area of responsibility, without having to share everything.

  • Custom dashboards: In addition to our out of the box dashboards for Cloud Cost and AI Cost, teams can create custom dashboards to track specific cost metrics. Use custom dashboards to create high-level views for executive stakeholders or project-level views for team leads.

  • Automation Rules. Route cost-related findings directly to project owners in Slack, Jira, or any tool of choice leveraging Wiz’s automation rules and extensive network of integration partners.

Explore and Investigate Cost Across Clouds

In the Cost Explorer, teams can track actual spend, forecast future spend, and drill deep into cost drivers with filtering and grouping by cloud platform, subscription, resource tags, resource type, AI model and more. The heatmap helps visualize how costs are trending over time. When cost spikes, you can easily launch an investigation using Mika AI to swiftly identify the root cause and summarize suggested next steps.

The Cost Explorer also includes a separate Kubernetes tab that provides visibility into cost across your Kubernetes clusters, including top controllers and allocated cost over time.

Eliminate Waste with Context-Aware Optimization.

Wiz surfaces granular cost optimization recommendations by taking into account resource relationship and configuration details, resource utilization, and actual spend inclusive of any negotiated rates. Wiz has 140+ optimization rules related to waste, right sizing, and configuration. Some of the unique opportunity types we surface include:

  • Disk right sizing: Leverages Wiz’s agentless disk analyzer to identify overprovisioned disks, and recommend downsizing based on actual utilization level.

  • Shadow data: Leverages Wiz’s data scanning capabilities to identify savings related to duplicate data and excessive versioning.

Recommendations are prioritized based on estimated savings and level of effort to remediate. Optimization opportunities in Wiz are designed to be actionable for FinOps and engineering teams, with detailed remediation guidance and code-to-cloud mapping that traces the resource to its IaC template and code repo.

Cost optimization opportunities prioritized by estimated monthly savings.

Alert on Cost Anomalies and Budget Violations

Cost Monitors allow teams to create custom rules to alert on anomalous spend or budget overruns. Monitors can be scoped to specific projects, to track at the team or product level.

The rules engine supports further scoping down to the resource level, with fixed thresholds or anomaly detection across cost and usage, over time windows you define.

Automation rules can be set to trigger alerts to teams in their preferred workflows when a cost monitor rule triggers, allowing teams to act quickly to prevent a large overrun. You can pivot from a monitor finding directly into the cost explorer to investigate with Mika AI and identify the root cause.

Govern Cost Commitments and Plan for Pricing Updates

Wiz tracks cost commitments across your cloud subscriptions. Instead of managing these investments in silos, Wiz Cloud Cost provides unified governance to help you optimize your commitment strategy by:

  • Tracking utilization: Monitor exactly how much of your pre-purchased capacity is actively being used so you don’t leave money on the table.

  • Tracking commitment coverage: Analyze the percentage of your infrastructure covered by commitments versus expensive on-demand rates to find the ideal baseline for future purchases.

  • Tracking expirations: See when commitments are nearing expiration, allowing your team to plan renewals seamlessly and avoid surprise cost spikes.

Wiz also keeps you ahead of pricing surprises with Pricing Updates, a feed of upcoming cloud provider pricing changes. We show how each update will impact your environment, empowering you to adjust budgets and architectures before the new rates take effect.

What's Next

Managing AI spend is top of mind for every FinOps and engineering leader as organizations rapidly scale their AI usage. Wiz Cloud Cost already provides AI model cost attribution through Cost Explorer and a dedicated AI cost dashboard.

AI Cost dashboard

We are currently working on enhanced support to deliver token-level visibility into AI spend across AWS, GCP, and Azure, giving you granular insight into the exact models and usage patterns driving AI expenses. We will be adding AI-specific cost optimization opportunities to help teams manage AI spend efficiency.

In addition to AI cost enhancements, we will continue to enhance the value of Cloud Cost through other platform features in Wiz. We are integrating cost with the Wiz Service Catalog so owners can get a service-level view of cost and see any cost optimization opportunities associated with their service.
