Premium build quality and hall effect key switches – with looks to match
IQUNIX, maker of high-end gaming keyboards, has a new collaboration with Kodansha that brings Ghost in the Shell branding to a pair of (subjectively) really awesome-looking keyboards, even if you aren’t specifically a fan of the 1995 film. The EV63 Ghost in the Shell Edition is a 60% layout, wired keyboard with premium features like a full CNC aluminum chassis, gasket-mounted structure, double-shot PBT keycaps, and hall effect switches.
The Ghost in the Shell keyboard is offered in two versions: the EV63 -Shell Core and EV63-Cyber Blue (pictured above).
The Keytok Nova switches are “one of the most talked-about Hall Effect magnetic switches in the enthusiast keyboard community”, adding to the enthusiast-level appeal of products like these EV63 Shell Core and Cyber Blue keyboards.
“Unlike early-generation magnetic switches that often suffered from excessive stem wobble and inconsistent keystrokes, the Nova Switch delivers a more refined balance of stability, smoothness, and precision. Its sound profile and controlled bottom-out feel have made it particularly popular among users seeking a single keyboard for both competitive gaming and daily typing.”
Never having used an IQUNIX keyboard, the editor of this post cannot personally comment on the quality of the experience, but the company is also announcing a ground-up rebuild of their HyperCore V3 firmware, with an emphasis on speed (8 KHz polling with 16 KHz scanning), low latency, and stability. You can read all about HyperCore V3 at this link.
“Designed around the futuristic aesthetics and philosophical themes of Ghost in the Shell, both keyboards extend the EV63 series — IQUNIX’s flagship Hall Effect lineup known for merging enthusiast-level typing acoustics with esports-oriented responsiveness.
This is where the Ghost in the Shell edition earns its place. The Shell Core uses a silver-grey anodized aluminum case with a PC side accent piece, but the real showpiece is the keycap set. IQUNIX went deep on the theme rather than just slapping a logo on it.
The alphas carry themed sub-legends — Quest, Will, Exist, Reality, Transmit, Young, Unbound, Identity, Ghost, Hacker, Cyborg, Network, Memory, Zero — that read almost like a narrative pulled from the source material. The top-right keys carry the Japanese title 攻殻機動隊, the Enter and Caps Lock keys feature the iconic eye artwork, and there’s a run of translucent teal accent keys across the right side, mod row and arrow cluster. The arrow keys are picked out in yellow. The spacebar carries a printed quote: “All of that blends to create a mixture that forms me, and gives rise to my conscience. At the same time though, I feel continually confined within boundaries.”
The front bezel is engraved with the GHOST IN THE SHELL wordmark and triangle logo. The per-key RGB shines beautifully through the translucent accent keys — in the angled shots you can see the teal and blue glow pooling through the clear caps and the yellow arrows. The whole package, including the matching themed deskmat, makes this feel like a genuine collector’s piece rather than a sticker-pack reskin.”
