Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy requested the Central government to give its approval for the Hyderabad Metro Rail phase-II.

The State government has already submitted the comprehensive detailed project report of the second phase of the Metro Rail project comprising seven corridors and was awaiting the approval from the Union government. The Chief Minister who is in the national capital on Wednesday made the request during a meeting with Union Urban Affairs Minister Manoharlal Khattar. He explained to the Union Minister about the salient features of the second phase of the metro rail and said the expansion of the Metro Rail through second and third phases was proposed in view of the significant growth witnessed in Hyderabad.

He briefed Mr. Khattar about the State government taking over the metro rail operations and said the government took over the mass transport system to pave the way for taking up expansion of the remaining phases in a hassle-free manner. “Since the first phase is under full control of the State government, works on the second and third phases can be taken up,” he said.

The Chief Minister explained that the second phase of the metro project involved development of seven corridors spanning 122.9 km with an estimated project cost of ₹38,595 crore and a detailed report had been submitted to the Centre already. The Union government should accordingly give permission at the earliest allowing the second phase as a joint venture project between the State and Central governments.

Mr. Revanth Reddy requested Mr. Khattar to take up the corridor connecting the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and Bharat Future City, designed keeping in view the requirements of the future, in the third phase. The government had submitted the DPR of the project and was awaiting its approval.
