IT major Infosys will set up a new development centre in Visakhapatnam with a capacity of 7,000 seats. The Andhra Pradesh government has allotted 20 acres to the company to set up the centre.
The company has scaled its workforce in Visakhapatnam from 250 employees in early 2024 to nearly 1,900 currently, with an additional 750 seats set to become operational soon.
“The company has decided to set up a permanent 20-acre campus, with a capacity to seat 7,000 engineers,” a senior official from the Andhra Pradesh government said.
“They recruited over 1,000 freshers and 500 lateral hires from the region for the centre so far, reflecting the availability of industry-ready talent here, and the success of Andhra Pradesh’s focused skilling and industry-aligned education initiatives.,” he said.
He said that the government’s policies around information technology, global capability centres and land incentives for setting up tech hubs helped the region become an attractive destination for companies.
“This ecosystem-led approach is helping reverse the long-standing trend of talent migration, positioning Visakhapatnam not just as a source of skilled professionals, but as a destination where global companies can build and retain high-quality teams,” Nara Lokesh, Minister for IT, Electronics & Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh, said in a statement on Thursday.
