Elon Musk snubbed a summons by French prosecutors investigating how AI chatbot Grok was allowed to spew out sexually explicit deepfakes and Holocaust-denying content, according to Agence France-Presse.

Paris officials told AFP in an email that they had “taken note” of the absence of the people they had called to testify as part of their investigation on Monday. Musk’s social media platform X and Paris prosecutors didn’t respond to multiple requests for comment.

The world’s richest man has struck a defiant stance ever since Paris prosecutors requested access in July 2025 to X’s recommendation engine and data on user posts.

X responded at the time by saying it wouldn’t comply and claimed in a social media post that the investigation was “distorting French law in order to serve a political agenda.”

While the Paris case began examining potential bias and manipulation of X’s algorithm and suspicions it might be used for foreign interference, it was expanded following outrage across the world at Grok creating sexualized images of people — including minors — without their consent.

The widening of the case was announced in February as the French offices of X were searched by police. On Monday, Paris prosecutors said they would continue their investigation in spite of Musk’s no-show.
