The foundation stone for the $15-billion data centre being set up by Google in Andhra Pradesh will be laid in Visakhapatnam on April 28. Touted as the largest AI hub for Google outside the United States, the data centre is designed to meet the growing demand for AI compute.
Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology Aswhini Vaishnav, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Google Cloud Chief Executive Officer Thomas Kurien will be present at the occasion.
The project, which would house a 1 gigawatt data centre and energy sources, would bank on a new subsea gateway. It will be connected to Google’s vast network of terrestrial and subsea cables worldwide. The project is being taken up by AdaniConneX.
Announced in New Delhi in October 2025, the data centre is expected to go live in two years, a source in the state government said.
