Milk prices have been hiked by Rs 2 per litre across India, adding to the burden on household budgets already hit by rising inflation due to the West Asia crisis.
India’s two largest dairy brands, Amul and Mother Dairy, hiked milk prices by Rs 2 per litre across major variants with effect from Thursday.
The companies say the hike has been driven by rising costs of cattle feed, fuel, packaging and transportation, along with higher procurement prices paid to dairy farmers.
Consumers across several cities said the increase would raise daily household expenses, with milk being an essential everyday staple.
