Easing of FDI rules

This refers to ‘China positive’ (March 13). The government’s recent decision to relax FDI rules for neighbouring countries by allowing minority investments through automatic routes is indeed a positive move but it has started a debate.

This clear policy shift reflects a balancing act between safeguarding economic interests and encouraging a more open investment environment. There is no doubt that easing restrictions will attract much needed capital, support the growth of Indian industries and strengthen economic ties. But it has to be implemented with clear safeguards and accountability as our strategic interests and data security should not be compromised at any cost.

Strive for peace

Factors like animosity among neighbours and long-standing conflicts are the root causes of acts of terror. The lack of vision and far-sighted actions and the dearth of great minds have led to regional conflicts that have long been raging across the world. Economic slumps, unemployment and uneven growth have turned out to be bigger issues. The leaders should understand these chronic issues and take urgent steps to resolve them. It’s time to walk towards a world of peace and prosperity.

Pursue diplomacy

Instead of taking concerted steps to de-escalate the military conflict with Iran through dialogue and diplomacy, Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu appear to be persisting with relentless bombardment. Iran, for its part, continues retaliatory strikes targeting US military bases and assets in Gulf states, signalling that the conflict may not end soon. The war is already triggering massive disruptions in global oil supply and sending energy prices soaring, with serious repercussions for the global economy.

FSSAI mandate

This refers to ‘FSSAI mandates registration of milk producers, vendors’ (March 13). Though belated, this is a welcome move that will help ensure milk quality and prevent adulteration. The reason for exempting milk producers registered with dairy co-op societies is questionable though, as FSSAI is a regulatory body whereas co-op societies are not. Importantly, FSSAI must undertake random visits to milk production outlets as a measure to curb malpractices as well as to ensure hygienic practices.
