With a target to procure 90 lakh tonnes of paddy from the rabi output, Telangana breached the 10-lakh tonne mark for the 2025-26 rabi season. The procured quantity includes 4.50 lakh tonnes of the fine variety, with the rest being the coarse variety so far. It said it is well on course to reach the target.

The state released ₹500.20 crore towards the payments under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) operations.

Telangana, which grew paddy in 22.25 lakh hectares, expects a record production of 1.52 crore tonnes. It targets to procure 30 lakh tonnes of fine variety paddy and 60 lakh tonnes of coarse (boiled rice) paddy.

“To handle the heavy inflow of grain, the department is operating at full capacity at all the 8,575 Paddy Purchase Centres (PPCs). These include 4,350 centres run by primary agricultural cooperative societies (PACS), 3,563 centres by Indira Kranthi Patham (IKP) and 662 by other agencies,” an official of the Telangana Civil Supplies Department has said.

“We are lifting the procured paddy from the respective collection centres to the designated rice mills to avoid stock pile-ups at the villages. This will help them (smaller centres) to handle the inflows efficiently,” he said.

The state government has provisioned 32 lakh tonnes of total godown space for storing the procured paddy.

Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy said the check-posts along the state borders were checking paddy trucks to prevent them from sneaking into the state’s procurement centres.
