With criticism mounting on issues around the procurement of paddy and maize in Telangana, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed District Collectors to expedite the procurement and complete the same in a mission mode.
In a video conference with District Collectors on Tuesday, the Chief Minister sought detailed information on the difficulties facing in the procurement process in every district.
Asking the Collectors to make all the efforts to remove hurdles for the farmers and ensure smooth operations at the procurement centres, he wanted them to conduct field visits to understand the challenges first-hand.
To strengthen the monitoring of procurement, an officer would be assigned to each of the IKP (Indira Kranthi Patham) centres to solve the hurdles during procurement. Similarly, a competent officer would also be stationed at all the rice mills to ensure smooth completion of the procurement process.
“You must address all the difficulties being faced by the farmers. We will not tolerate negligence,” he cautioned.
Asking the collectors to ensure a sufficient supply of gunny bags, he directed them to the procured produce without any delay.
He warned that action would be initiated against the contractors who failed to provide adequate vehicles for the transportation of the produce as per the agreement. The authorities concerned were ordered to initiate criminal proceedings, if necessary, against the erring contractors.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the availability of warehouses and advised the collectors to map temporary facilities to store the procured produce.
