Non-fossil based power generation reaches 30%
2025-09-28 · via Clean Tech News | The HinduBusinessLine

Electricity generation from India’s non-fossil fuel-based power plants (wind, solar, small and large hydro and nuclear) accounted for 30 per cent of total electricity generation in April – August 2025, according to data provided by the Central Electricity Authority.

This is as much significant a milestone as the installed capacity crossing the 50 per cent mark in India’s journey to its target of 500 GW non-fossil energy capacity by 2030.

Non-fossil-fuel sources other than nuclear gave 27.97 per cent of the generation, while nuclear accounted for 2.88 per cent. Not counting nuclear energy and large hydro projects, the country’s renewable energy capacity stands at about 192 GW.
