Nifty Bank index has come down sharply after making a high of 53,968 in the opening trades. The index is currently trading at 53,570, up 0.22 per cent. The advances/declines ratio is at 10:4. If this turns in favour of the declines, then the Nifty Bank index can fall more giving away all the gains. We will have to wait and see.
Nifty Bank index outlook
The Nifty Bank index has been oscillating between 53,200 and 54,100 for some time now. The broader trend is down. As long as the index trades below 54,000, the bias will remain negative. As such, the chances are high to see a break below 53,200. Such a break can drag the Nifty Bank index down to 52,800 and even lower in the coming sessions.
To avoid this fall, the index has to rise past 54,100. That will give a breather and take the index higher to 54,400-54,500.
Nifty Bank Futures
The Nifty Bank May Futures (53,710) is trading marginally higher by 0.1 per cent. The contract has resistance in the 54,200-54,250 region which is holding well for now.
Support is at 53,500. A break below it can take the Nifty Bank May Futures contract down to 53,300-53,000.
The contract has to rise move above 54,250 to turn the outlook positive. If that happens, we can get a rise to 54,400 first and then to 54,900.
Trade Strategy
Go short on a break below 53,500. Keep the stop-loss at 53,560. Trail the stop-loss down to 53,470 as soon as the contract goes down to 53,440. Revise the stop-loss down to 54,430 and 54,370 when the contract touches 54,390 and 54,355 respectively. Exit the shorts at 53,320.
Supports: 53,500, 53,300
Resistances: 54,250, 54,400
