GigaDevice and Qt Group have entered a strategic partnership to simplify embedded GUI development. The companies will combine GigaDevice’s GD32H7 microcontroller family with Qt’s software framework for embedded devices. Together, they aim to help developers bring products to market faster.
The announcement is relevant for eeNews Europe readers because it addresses a common challenge in embedded design. Many engineers spend significant time getting graphics software running efficiently on new hardware. As a result, user interface development is often delayed. By working together on software optimization and reference designs, the companies hope to reduce that effort.
The partnership centers on GigaDevice’s GD32H7 series of 32 bit microcontrollers and Qt for MCUs. The framework is designed for graphical user interfaces on resource constrained embedded systems.
Demand for advanced HMIs continues to grow across industrial automation, energy storage, smart home products, and consumer electronics. At the same time, manufacturers want displays that offer smooth graphics and responsive controls. They also need low power consumption and reliable operation.
Under the agreement, GigaDevice and Qt will jointly optimize and validate Qt for MCUs on the GD32H7 platform. The goal is to improve performance and simplify integration. Consequently, developers should be able to spend less time on platform setup and more time on application development.
Beyond platform optimization, the partners plan to develop reference designs, software frameworks, and application guidelines for selected markets. These resources are intended to help engineering teams shorten development cycles and reduce design risks.
The companies will also support the developer community through technical training, customer workshops, and joint marketing activities.
“At GigaDevice, building a comprehensive MCU ecosystem has always been central to our strategy,” said Vincent Li, GigaDevice Senior Vice President and General Manager of the MCU Business Unit. “Qt Group’s technical expertise and developer footprint in embedded GUI align closely with our direction: serving premium customers and raising the competitive bar for our products. This partnership will combine the hardware strengths of the GD32H7 series with the software capabilities of Qt for MCUs, giving development teams an integrated platform, and helping end customers deliver more differentiated product experiences, faster.”
Meanwhile, Qt says the collaboration targets one of the biggest challenges in embedded GUI development.
“Embedded developers building advanced HMI products face a consistent bottleneck: the time it takes to get a graphics stack running well on new hardware before meaningful UI work can begin,” said Michele Rossi, Director, Qt for MCUs Product Management, Qt Group. “Our work with GigaDevice on the GD32H7 platform is about removing that bottleneck.”
Overall, the partnership expands support for the GD32H7 platform and strengthens the embedded HMI ecosystem. It also gives developers access to a more integrated hardware and software environment for future designs.
