As smart cameras become increasingly common in homes and workplaces, privacy remains one of the biggest barriers to adoption. Alarm.com is aiming to tackle that concern with a new indoor security camera that combines enhanced monitoring features with a physical privacy control users can actually see.
The new Alarm.com indoor camera, the ADC-V530, combines 4MP HDR video, color night vision, and AI-powered analytics with a built-in privacy shutter that physically blocks the camera lens when not in use.
For eeNews Europe readers, the launch highlights a growing shift in the security industry. While video quality and AI capabilities continue to improve, manufacturers are increasingly looking for ways to build trust through hardware-based privacy features rather than relying solely on software controls.
The ADC-V530 is the first Alarm.com indoor camera to include a physical privacy shutter. Users can close the shutter manually or automate it through schedules and rules in the Alarm.com app, allowing the camera to monitor a property while occupants are away and automatically disable the view when they return.
The move reflects growing consumer demand for greater transparency around indoor surveillance devices, particularly in private spaces such as living rooms, offices and small businesses.
“With the V530, we set out to remove the biggest objection to indoor cameras,” said Dan Kerzner, President of Platforms Business at Alarm.com. “Customers get sharper video, better visibility at night, and a physical privacy control they can see and trust, all included with the Alarm.com platform.”
Alongside the privacy enhancements, the camera delivers several upgrades in imaging performance. The 4MP sensor captures HDR video with a 110-degree field of view, providing improved detail in both live and recorded footage.
An integrated spotlight enables color night vision, helping users identify people and objects more clearly after dark. The spotlight also supports deterrence features available through the Alarm.com platform, including AI Deterrence, Perimeter Guard and manually triggered warning sounds.
The Alarm.com indoor camera also includes updated video analytics designed to reduce unnecessary alerts. The system can identify people, vehicles, animals and business activity, allowing users to receive more relevant notifications and create customized recording rules.
For eligible US customers, Alarm.com has also added AI Video Event Search, which enables users to locate recorded events using natural-language queries. The feature is available through Premium Video and Commercial Video Plus service packages, although it is currently unavailable in Illinois due to local regulations.
The camera supports encrypted local storage through onboard microSD recording and can be paired with Alarm.com Stream Video Recorders for continuous 24/7 video capture.
While the ADC-V530 is aimed at residential users, Alarm.com is also positioning the camera for small and medium-sized businesses. Business Activity Analytics can provide insights into visitor traffic and customer behavior, while the integrated spotlight and professional monitoring services help protect premises outside operating hours.
The ADC-V530 is available through Alarm.com service providers in supported markets and is compatible with the company’s residential and commercial video security plans.
