In 1961, a new electronics magazine was launched in the Netherlands with an ambitious goal: to help engineers, electronics enthusiasts, and students learn, build, and share technology. Sixty-five years later, Elektor has grown far beyond its origins as a magazine. Today, Elektor — which owns eeNews Europe — is a global platform for electronics engineering, a trusted source of technical knowledge, and a vibrant international community united by a passion for innovation.

As we celebrate Elektor’s 65th anniversary, we are proud to reflect on an extraordinary journey — and excited about the future that lies ahead.

Inspiration matters

Over the past six and a half decades, Elektor has chronicled — and often anticipated — many of the most important developments in electronics. From analog circuits and radio experimentation to microprocessors, embedded systems, wireless technologies, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things, we have been there every step of the way.

In 1964, Elektor debuted “Halfgeleidergids.” Today, we continue the tradition with Circuit Specials.

While technology has evolved dramatically since 1961, our mission has remained remarkably consistent: to inspire people to create with technology and provide the practical knowledge needed to turn ideas into reality.

Across the years, countless projects have been built on workbenches around the world using ideas first published in Elektor. Many engineers began their careers by building an Elektor project. Entrepreneurs launched companies using skills developed through our articles, books, and educational resources. Lifelong friendships, professional collaborations, and thriving communities have emerged through shared experiences within the Elektor ecosystem.

Most importantly, none of this would have been possible without our community members. Whether you’ve been reading Elektor since the early days or recently discovered us through eeNews Europe, a video, a livestream, or an online article, you are part of the story. Our readers, members, authors, contributors, partners, and employees have collectively shaped Elektor into what it is today.

As we celebrate this milestone, we’ll be looking back at the people, projects, and ideas that defined the past 65 years — and exploring the technologies and innovations that will shape the decades to come.

Exploring the Elektor archives

Throughout the anniversary year, we’ll take a deep dive into Elektor’s rich history across our magazines, websites, newsletters, videos, podcasts, and livestreams. We’ll revisit some of the most memorable projects, articles, products, and engineering breakthroughs from the past six and a half decades.

Here are interesting projects from July/Aug 1994: a sensor interface, a lead-acid battery charger, a solder vapor extractor, and a stereo decoder.

From classic circuits and pioneering designs to iconic cover stories and influential technical features, we’ll highlight the content that inspired generations of engineers, makers, students, and innovators.

We’ll also shine a spotlight on the people behind the work — authors, editors, contributors, community members, and industry partners whose expertise and dedication helped build Elektor into the global platform it is today.

Of course, this celebration isn’t only about looking back. Along the way, we’ll explore how many of these ideas continue to influence modern engineering and inspire the next generation of innovators.

Whether you’re revisiting old favorites or discovering them for the first time, we think you’ll enjoy the journey.

Community and team favorites

The Elektor archive contains thousands of projects, articles, books, and design ideas. During our anniversary celebration, we’ll revisit some of our team’s personal favorites alongside community-selected classics that continue to inspire engineers today.

We’ll also invite members of the Elektor community to share their own memories, first projects, favorite articles, and stories about how Elektor influenced their careers, businesses, education, and hobbies.

Some projects have become legendary. Others are hidden gems waiting to be rediscovered. Together, we’ll celebrate them all.

Livestreams, interviews, and special events

The celebration won’t be limited to the pages of a magazine. Throughout the anniversary year, we’ll host special editions of Elektor Engineering Insights, livestream events, interviews with industry leaders, conversations with longtime contributors, and retrospectives on the technologies that shaped the last 65 years.

We’ll also look ahead to the innovations that will define the future — from AI-assisted engineering and advanced embedded systems to robotics, sustainable electronics, and next-generation connectivity.
