Bharti Airtel reported a 32.8% rise in mobile data consumption on a year-on-year (YoY) basis, reaching 31.4 GB per customer per month in Q4FY26, which ended in March 2026. The company said the growth was driven by higher smartphone penetration and continued expansion in data usage across its mobile network.
Alongside the rise in data consumption, the company reported a 20 million increase in smartphone data customers YoY. During Q4FY26, the company added 5.8 million smartphone users on a quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) basis. Airtel said smartphone users now account for 80% of its total mobile customer base.
Key operational metrics:
- Total customer base: Airtel’s total customer base stood at nearly 666 million across 15 countries as of the end of Q4FY26, compared to 590.5 million a year earlier. India accounted for around 482 million customers, up 13.7% YoY.
- Postpaid customers: Airtel added 0.8 million postpaid customers during the quarter, bringing its total to 29 million.
- Airtel Homes user base: The Homes business customer base stood at 14.2 million in Q4FY26. The segment added 1.1 million customers during the quarter and recorded 37.3% YoY revenue growth.
- Digital TV: Airtel Digital TV generated revenue of Rs 747 crore during the quarter, with a customer base of 16 million. The company said Digital TV revenues declined 2.3% YoY.
- Mobile average revenue per user (ARPU): Mobile ARPU for the quarter stood at Rs 257, compared to Rs 245 in Q4FY25. This led to the company’s India mobile revenue growing 8.3% YoY during the quarter.
- Infrastructure rollout: During Q4FY26, Airtel deployed 2,426 towers and 16,746 mobile broadband base stations. Over the full year, the company added 7,883 towers and deployed 43,290 kilometres of fibre.
Key financial metrics:
- Total revenue: Airtel’s consolidated revenue for the quarter stood at Rs 55,383 crore, growing 15.7% YoY and 2.6% QoQ. Revenue from India operations stood at Rs 39,566 crore, up 7.7% YoY and 0.9% QoQ.
- Net income: Consolidated net income before exceptional items stood at Rs 7,245 crore in Q4FY26, compared to Rs 5,223 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.
- EBITDA: Consolidated EBITDA stood at Rs 32,038 crore, up 16.9% YoY, with an EBITDA margin of 57.8%. India’s EBITDA stood at Rs 23,965 crore, with a 60.6% margin.
- Capex: Airtel’s capex for the quarter stood at Rs 16,066 crore.
Other announcements: During the quarter, Airtel announced a partnership with Google to roll out Rich Communications Services (RCS) messaging in India, featuring spam and fraud filtering. Separately, Airtel announced that Alpha Wave Global, Carlyle, and Anchorage Capital would invest $1 billion in Nxtra Data Limited to expand its data centre business in India. Airtel also said its NBFC subsidiary, Airtel Money Limited, will receive Rs 20,000 crore in capital over the next few years to expand digital financial services.
