Continuing the discussion from Can’t install CachyOS using newest ISO:

I have an RTX 3070 Nvidia gpu, and I get the same pacman failed error when trying to install with new ISO. I have tried with high speed connection and everything else I could think of. But it is the same every time. It will get to 38% during the package installation and then fail. I miss my favorite distro. Please somebody fix this issue….please…

I am new here and thought I was just commenting on somebody else’s post. I did not mean yo post the same title as the one I thought I was commenting on. But it is the same issue as everybody else who has a Nvidia gpu. CachyOS new install ISO fails to install time after time. I wish I didn’t re- install after I saw the article about CachyOS and the new Nvidia driver. Now I have been spoiled with using CachyOS. And no other distro can compare. Please CachyOS team we need help…

Installation error “Failed to run pacman”:

Run the following in the console in the live environment before installation:

sudo pacman -Sy archlinux-keyring

than

sudo cachyos-rate-mirrors

The installation should then proceed.

I only wish I could understand why I never had to do that to install before. But now It is a must for me to install CachyOS. Will I have to do that from now on? You don’t really have to explain it. You have made my new year Happy again. I just like to know how things work. But for now I am off to play with my new CahyOS installation…..HAPPY NEW YEAR:)

Unfortunately, I don’t have a real explanation for the reason. I only know that the latest ISO only works this way. I also can’t tell you whether it will still be necessary to perform these steps. However, what I have observed is that in the past, EndeavourOS installations with Calamares also failed with the aforementioned error message. This was especially true if the mirrors hadn’t been updated before installation. There are certainly people in this forum who can provide a more detailed explanation.

Interesting that I have had the same problem almost 8 months ago and found the same solution as mentioned.

Later I was in need to reinstall at the beginning of December and still had the same problem: installation stopped around 38% and worked like a charm after reboot and

sudo pacman -Sy archlinux-keyring

Rating the mirrors was unnecessary…

It was the newest ISO from the website.

Happy new year and hopefully peace in 2026.

Cheers

Jo

As I said, I had the same problem a few months ago with EndeavourOS and also at some point with Manjaro. All Arch-based with Calamares installer. However, it doesn’t seem to be a persistent issue. Perhaps one of the developers could explain it to us?

@ptr1337 maybe?

Please provide a log

Hm, since it was done during the installation, I never thought of save a log.

Why are there two different ISOs, and why do you officially link to the older one on the site? cachyos-desktop-linux-251129.iso
cachyos-desktop-linux-251209.iso

Dear All,

I got same issue. I wanted to reinstall my machine I had a former CachyOS grub version… I got exactly same issue.

see https://termbin.com/9twt

I refreshed both keyrings (previous to install…) meaning Arch and CachyOS

I even rerated the mirros got same issue.

Quite annoying I must say.

And of course I don’t want to install any other distro…

Any help would be (marvellous / godlike / ecstatic… remove unwanted qualifications ;))

And btw my GPU is a nvidia RTX3060 Ti which might be explaining a lot about issues I am facing…

16

New Attempt

I launched in the console

sudo pacman -Sy archlinux-keyring cachyos-keyring cachyosrate-mirrors

then sudo cachyos-rate-mirrors

and launched the install.

Error message I got is in two parts :

it says installation has failed. Failed to run pacstrap. details - then in the black part of the message we get ‘failed to run pacman’.

logs at : https://termbin.com/vjhn

Any idea or path to solve this ???

Thanks in advance

Kind regards / Gruss

You was able to install? I having same issue with the last version

18

Hello trozomon,

Yes I was able to install on new image. My own issue was caused by a memory stick that was having errors. I had to fix hardware. This was found by someone on the forum saying this might be an hardware issue. Therefore I tried testing my hardware from system tools and discovered a RAM stick was the cause… Changed it . changed my life

Changing ISO was generating same issue. Some other distros as well… I have as well noticed one domain server was having DNS issue (cdn77). So I removed it from the list of mirrors.

Hoping that will help for you !

Good luck
