Cosmic-greeter account expired on fresh install, greeter won't start

Fresh install with COSMIC. Greeter never comes up on first boot. greetd crash-loops until systemd gives up. From the journal pam_unix(login:account): account cosmic-greeter has expired (account expired) error: authentication error: pam_acct_mgmt: ACCT_EXPIRED greetd: unable to start greeter: session start failed: authentication error: pam_acct_mgmt: ACCT_EXPIRED cosmic-greeter.service: start-limit-hit The cosmic-greeter user gets created with an expiry date in the past.
