Hello,

I’m having weird scroll wheel issues with my wireless G502.
When in wireless mode the scroll wheel on faster spinning is turning once for every ratchet, but when I’m turning slowly it’s two ratchets for every one turn. eg. libinput debug-events log:

For the first ones I scrolled wheel slowly.

But when I use wired mode the issue is gone, It does not matter how fast or slow I spin the wheel, 1 racket = 1 turn. eg. libinput debug-events log:

I’ve tried to google for anything close to that, but I’ve failed, so I have come here for some hope for fixing the issue. It drives me mad, especially in games.

EDIT: I’ve tried imwheel with config settings found in other forums:

I have tried to use different values for the button4 and button5.

I don’t have any experience with mouse on Linux systems but i would suggest the following:

I see several G502 sub-models (Hero, lightspeed etc).

  1. Check according to your model if there is a firmware available from logitech website
  2. Clear any saved profiles from onboard memory

You might need a windows machine to run the above.

Firmware update would probably reset any saved settings on mouse.

Thank you for your input, but sadly it did not work.

Already have newest firmware and I just deleted onboard profiles in the g hub app.
I had slim hopes for them, because then It would not matter if mouse is connected using wireless dongle or wired, scroll wheel would act the same way if it were onboard profile problem.

I think the problem must be somewhere between dongle and whatever processes that signal. No idea what it would be.

I have the G502 Lightspeed.

I was going to suggest it’s just the garbage Logitech build quality that I’ve come to know and love (hate). I’ve bought a lot of Logitech mice over 15 years or so and they really have taken a nose dive in quality. There are a lot of complaints that you can find about declining build quality on Reddit too.

My first Logitech mouse, the G300s, lasted me about 4 years before failing (EDIT: It was second hand too!), the next only a couple years, then the one after that only a few months. I next bought a g305 and the first lasted some time but the g305 after that developed scrollwheel issues starting a year in and became unbearable at 2 years. My current G502X has double-click back button issues and the new G305 is currently 3 months old and still fine. I do try to keep them clean and I don’t chuck them around.

It’s sadly the devil I know and I feel hesitant to buy an $80AUD+ mouse off another company, worried I’d come to just hate it. The G305 is also available in most large retail stores and is of acceptable quality, just keep the receipt.

Oh great, the G305 was $65 1 month ago on a large online computer retailer here and now it’s $80. Fucking Logitech.
